Richard DeRosset
Board Member
Richard W. DeRosset was born in Boston, Mass.
At age nine, he moved with his parents to La Jolla, Ca. His mother was an
artist for the Disney Company, so it is understandable where his artist's
ability originates. He did not however begin painting until 1977. He graduated
from Helix High School, LaMesa and enlisted in the US Navy in 1972 and served
on the Epperson and USS Paul Revere from 1972 to 1976. Most of this time
was spent in the Far East. After his service he went to sea on a commercial
fishing boat. He survived a ship's sinking in 1977 and he was in the water
for several hours. In less than two years, he became a Ship's Captain and
Master until 1982. As time went along he discovered this deep love for the
sea and ships and his ability to detail this in his paintings. He researches
his subjects many hours before he begins the work. Richard has works all
over the world in canvas and mural form. His detailed 7 murals in the Old
Balboa Chapel was a gift to the veteran and he completed this work in 5 years.
Notably, similar works like this in other states made him world famous. The
murals are national treasures and many veterans who served signed the murals.
Richard, as Club Artist is giving the Chapter some eight paintings and promises
30 or 40 more. He recently finished his 754th painting and now extends his
work to the local Aero Space Museum who are very happy to accept many of
his offerings of original work. |
